With a focus on promoting the health and well-being of all Tanzanians, the ministry coordinates various initiatives to improve healthcare delivery, disease prevention, and public health services across the country.
Operating under the Department of Preventive Service and Health Education within the Ministry of Health Zanzibar, the organization oversees HIV/AIDS, TB, and leprosy control efforts.
The CDC established an office in Tanzania in 2001 to support efforts in preventing HIV/AIDS; this presence expanded through the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) in 2003.
Leads and supports local health efforts in fighting HIV/AIDS by improving HIV prevention, care, treatment, and support services for people living with HIV (PLHIV) across Tanzania.
