Kenya: Who We Are
About Us
Our Kenya offices in Nairobi and Kisumu employ individuals with expertise in public health, health informatics, monitoring and evaluation, surveillance, business development, finance, and operations.
History
The University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) has been implementing health science and clinical research projects in Kenya since 2004 in collaboration with the Kenya Ministry of Health and other local partners. To facilitate the expanding scope of work, strengthen and expand collaborations, and improve implementation, the University of California established Global Programs for Research and Training (Global Programs) in 2014, an international non-governmental organization (NGO) registered in Kenya. Global Programs is a wholly owned and controlled affiliate of the University of California. Global Programs officially began operations in September 2015 and currently has two offices in Kenya in Nairobi and Kisumu.
Global Programs’ administrative support for UC investigators includes general award support, hiring and contracting, procurement, asset management and disposal, travel support, and accounting. Global Programs collaborates with the Kenya government and related parastatal organizations, along with local education institutions and NGO partners, to implement programs and ensure project goals are met. Further, Global Programs supports the continued development of partnerships to support research priorities and health initiatives in Kenya. Global Programs ensures that the finance, human resources, procurement, information technology, transport, and logistics functions support a growing portfolio of UCSF programs in Kenya.
